Bad Sobernheim is located at the Nahe, centrally between the district town of Bad Kreuznach and the gemstone metropolis of Idar-Oberstein. The Hunsrück rises to the north and the North Palatinate Uplands to the south. Bad Sobernheim is a recognized “spa”. It is known for its Felke cure, named after the “clay pastor” Emanuel Felke. Other very interesting tourist destinations are the Rhineland-Palatinate open-air museum and Germany's first barefoot path with a suspension bridge. Wine, forest and hiking are trademarks of the region. Wine has been cultivated at the Nahe since Roman times. The winegrowers present their products at numerous wine festivals. The Rhine-Nahe wine trail is around 97 km long and runs from Kirn an der Nahe to Bingen am Rhein through the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park, giving hikers access to the entire wine-growing region of the middle and lower Nahe. The Nahe region also offers top-class cultural events. The state capital Mainz is also easy and quick to reach.
