Leinefelde-Worbis was born in 2004 when the two towns of Leinefelde and Worbis merged with their districts and the municipalities of Breitenbach and Wintzingerode. The town of Leinefelde-Worbis is located in Eichsfeld in northern Thuringia on the A38 highway, close to the border with Lower Saxony. Leinefelde-Worbis is the largest municipality in the Eichsfeld district, both in terms of area and population, with around 21,000 inhabitants.
